Wow, this year has flown by so fast already. We can’t believe Piper is 10 1/2 months old already!
So many changes and developments. It seems that she started doing all kinds of new things between her 9th and 10th month.
She started crawling right at 9 months, she is cruising big-time! We thought it was going to be a major undertaking to baby-proof our house but so far the easiest things to do are: block off things, close doors and say “no touching” a lot. But it is working.
We have been playing baby-signing videos for her, this is to help her learn baby-sign language. Well it’s really just standard american sign language, but it is structured to song and dance and teaches the essentials like: eat, drink, more, potty, diaper, dog and cat and some other things. This is in hopes that she can start signing some of her needs, it helps relieve some frustrations for babies when they can’t tell us what they want yet. So far Piper’s favorite sign, and the first one she learned, is “Doggy”. This one is consistent, she always remembers it, she will sign it when she sees a dog anywhere. She knows how to sign “all-done” but we’re not sure she knows what it means, just that she knows how to do the sign when we say all-done. We also thought she was signing “eat” but now it looks like she is blowing kisses. We say “kisses” and she will blow a kiss, or when we ask for a kiss she will lean in to give us nice, big, open-mouthed wet kisses! Gotta love it! She has also gotten very good at waving hi, and bye-bye.
Piper still gets to see her Aunt Shelly, her Nana, and Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Russ on a weekly basis. They get to spend lots of time with her and she loves them all so much. It’s easy to see how much fun she has.
But you should she how happy and excited she gets when she sees her Mommy and Daddy, it just melts our hearts.
I have uploaded some new pics, but this is by no means all of the new photos we have of her. These are just some from my phone.
Gee, does it seem like this blog is always all about HER? Oh yeah, that’s right, it IS all about her
And I guess that’s the way it will be for many, many more years to come. So blessed to have her in our life!
Love all of you! Try and stay cool for the rest of this “non-summer”.
By the way, the Videos page is new on our website, it’s still a work in progress, but please do visit.

So Happy 4th of July to everyone!! Happy Birthday Dad!
Piper has grown and changed so much in the last few months. And as she yells at me in the background I am reminded why I haven’t had a chance to get this updated!
So the latest goings on…Piper is such a fun, happy and wonderful baby. We are so blessed. She is truly a joy and such a good baby.
Piper got her first teeth at 5 1/2 months and we had been waiting and expecting her top two teeth to come in shortly after that, but two months later still no sign of them. Finally a new tooth starts to break through the surface, we expected it to be the top middle teeth, but it’s her top eye teeth instead. I sure hope she has some middle teeth in there somewhere!
Piper sits up really good on her own. She is not crawling yet, but she wants to so bad, and she trys to scoot along on her butt (she can actually move a few feet that way).
Piper got to go in the pool for the first time last week and she LOVED it! Yesterday she started her swim class. It’s actually a Water Adjustment class. It is geared to help little babes get used to the water and feel comfortable. Eventually when she is a little older she will have more advanced classes to learn to actually swim. So she is really enjoying the pool and we are happy about that because we spend a lot of time near the water and we don’t want her to be scared.
Her other new thing is clapping, she likes to clap and seems so proud of herself when she does it, it’s so cute watching her clap her chubby little hands.
We have been so blessed to have so much supportive family. Danny’s Mom, Nana, still sits with her on Mondays and Wednesdays. And she has been with Danny’s sister Shelly the other three days a week while Danny and I are at work. Jen’s mom Joan recently got laid off, so we are calling it her forced retirement, she is very disappointed because she really enjoyed going out to work everyday. Now she is looking for new things to fill her days. But now that she isn’t working Grandma and Grandpa of “Team Hada” can join the Piper Care rotation. We are really happy because Piper is growing so fast and we don’t want them to miss anything.
I am going to post a few of my favorite new pics here on this post. She is so beautiful and we love her more than words can say.
Take care, love you all, have a Happy fourth and upcoming summer!

Sitting up like a Big Girl!
Yesterday, Feb. 1st, was Danny’s 50th birthday. Yea! Piper sang (cooed) Happy Birthday to him, it was so cute! She absolutely loves her Daddy! Of course she has lots of big smiles and giggles for mommy too.
We are doing really well and have adjusted to parenthood fairly well. We are a good team, and this certainly takes teamwork!
Jen has 1 month left before returning to work and that’s going to be so hard. But we have the comfort of knowing that Piper will be well taken care of by family. Danny’s sister and mom have offered to watch her while we are at work. What a blessing that is, and we are so grateful.

She likes her Santa hat, but LOVES her Daddy!
Christmas Eve we went to Danny’s sister Shelly’s house. They always have a great Christmas Eve gathering and this year was no exception. There were about 17 kids there! Not to mention all the adults, which includes Danny’s family as well as Jen’s family, and Shelly’s husband Brian’s family. The best part every year is a special visit from Santa! It was so precious to see Piper with Santa for the first time. She absolutely loves all the christmas lights. (I have uploaded our Chrstmas photo album for y’all)
It’s kinda funny to watch all the family fight over who gets to hold Piper next. Everyone is just as smitten with her as we are.
Christmas Day we spent with Jen’s family, and that was a nice mellow day (even if Piper was a little fussy that day). Then New Year’s Day we went to Jen’s cousin’s family’s house in Rancho Bernardo for lunch and a Wii session (another fun but fussy day).
As for Piper’s progress…she is 7 weeks old now. Next week she goes for her 2-month checkup, where she will be getting some of her immunizations
She is still steadily gaining weight, she is 11.3 pounds now. She feels so heavy to us now. She is a very happy baby and loves to smile at her Daddy and Mommy. She will watch us from across the room. You can tell she knows that Mommy is the milk machine because she will cry when she sees her if she is hungry, as if to say “come get me and feed me!”
Merry Christmas Everyone! Hope you have a wonderful 2010!

Love my new cap!
HI All, Well all is well in the Young household. Piper is growing so fast! We can’t believe it! She gained 10 ounces in the last week alone. She is probably 9 pounds now. She was 8.15 on Monday. It’s a relief to know that she is getting enough food from the breastfeeding.
She got a bath today and she only hated it part of the time
She is awake more and more each day. Her alert time is usually in the mornings, somewhere between 8-11am. It’s fun to watch her just looking around, checking things out. She loves looking at lights, especially in the window blinds.
My friend Emily sent her some hand knitted items, one being the cute cap in the picture above…thanks Em!
Thanksgiving was great. We spent the day with both Jen and Danny’s family at Jen’s parents house. Everyone was salivating over the new baby. It was very nice. We have so much to be thankfull for this year. Piper is an amazing gift. And as we say every year, life just keeps getting better and better. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, it does!
So we are looking forward to Piper’s first Christmas. She will get to meet Santa, that should be fun.
Signing off for now~Love you all!

She’s Here! Sorry for the delay in posting the news. I know everyone has been waiting to see pics and hear the details but we have been at the hospital and we didn’t seem to have time to post like we thought we would (imagine that!).
So on Sunday the 15th Jen’s water broke, after arriving at the hospital they started contractions. After the baby’s heartrate kept dipping they determined that the baby would not be able to handle a regular labor so we decided to do a c-section. It all happened so fast that we didn’t really have time to have any feelings about it one way or the other. We just knew we needed to do whatever necessary to have a healthy baby.
So at 5pm, our little Jelly Bean came into the world. And we have Miss Piper Ann Young, weighing 8.1 pounds, almost 19 inches in length.
She has reddish brown hair (and plenty of it!) and dark blue-gray eyes. Other than that, and the fact that she has Danny’s nose, it’s hard to say who she looks like. Everyone says she looks like both of us. She is just perfect! We are so incredibly blessed!
We came home from the hospital yesterday (Thursday) after 4 days. Jen is recovering from the surgery very well, without too much pain.
The recovery time is now, recovering form not having enough sleep! Now we know what everyone was talking about! We are definitely sleep deprived and trying to learn to breast feed this baby, every 2-3 hours, has been very challenging. We have had a hard time with her feedings, but it is getting better.
So we are home now, and are sorry if you have called and we have not been able to return your call yet. Just know that we really appreciate all your love and support!!
If you wanted to come visit, leave us a message and let us know. We don’t mind visitors, just have to schedule it between feedings, etc.
Thanks All~ We love you! And we love our new little girl!! She couldn’t be more amazing!

Well, 4 days to go. Jen finally stopped working earlier this week. It has gotten difficult to move around and walk short distances. Hanging in there though. We have enjoyed some mommy & daddy bonding time while waiting for her to arrive.
If she’s not here by her due date on Monday we’ll discuss induction with the doc. We’ll keep you posted!

Well, we are anxiously waiting. 9 days till the due date, and she is really not showing any signs that she wants to leave her comfy quarters. The bigger and more comfy she gets the more UNcomfortable Mom gets!
Jen is still working, (I know you’re thinking she must be crazy!) The plan there is to not work past next Friday the 13th, whether is is here or not. We’ll see what the doc says on Monday. Jen has been completely exhausted all the time and her back hurts a lot, but nothing that’s not managable (and to be expected for that matter!)
The nursery, bassinet, and Mom’s hospital bags are all ready to go whenever Jelly Bean is.

If so she will be a contender for the Michelin Spokesbaby! |
